Elma, WA -
Another awesome April Spring night in the Harbor for Round 2 at Grays Harbor Raceway. Victories went to Devon Reed in the IMCA Modifieds, Brad Martin in the NW Dwarf Cars and Austin Kerrigan in the Hornets.
Brenton Schnitzer took the lead with Devon Reed on his tail in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds, when on lap 2 disaster would strike when there was some contact with multiple cars mid pack sending Scott Miller spinning hard into the outside wall and Craig Moore slowing and Jim Ragsdale colliding sending Moore into the infield. This would end the night for Miller and Ragsdale among others but Moore was able to keep moving before they called the red so he kept his spot. On the restart Schnitzer took the lead and saw a great battle between Zane Miner now in second and Reed and Moore and John Higgenbottom for 4th and 5th that went on for several laps. A caution for debris would slow the field and on the restart Reed would get around Miner for second and a few laps later disaster would strike the leader as Schnitzer would spin in the middle of turn 3 and 4 sending him to the back of the field and giving the lead to Devon Reed. Moore would mount a challenge but Reed would be able to use the banking to keep momentum and hold off the challenge and a spin by Rodger Perry would slow the field one more time. Reed would hold off for his second career Grays Harbor Raceway win and first this year in the DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region for the Woodland, Wa racer in the Reeds Automotive no. 58.. Zane Miner would get around Moore for second. Moore would finish 3rd and be the Elma Lane Hard charge followed by Jake Sorenson 4th and Brenton Schnitzer would rebound for 5th. Heat race wins earlier in the evening would go to Brenton Schnitzer, Devon Reed, and Zane Miner.
In the NW Dwarf Cars Kyle Pope would lead the field to green and hold off Brad Martin when a yellow would come out for a stopped car in turn 3. On the second attempt Pope would again hold off Martin but this time Martin would get lose in 3 and make some contact with other cars but keep going and multiple cars would stop bringing out another caution. On the 3rd attempt Brad Martin would get a much better jump and be able to get around Pope and lead the rest of the way for his second victory in a row at the Raceway in 2026. Pope had quite the battle with Weatherbee but able to hold off for 2nd followed by Weatherbee, Jeremy Martin and Dave Brune your top 5. Heat race wins earlier in the night went to Brad Martin, Kyle Pope, and Justin DeMars. The NW Dwarf Cars will be back on May 23rd and May 24th to race the weekend of the Modified Clash.
Austin Kerrigan would lead the field to green and able to hold off multiple challenges on restarts and pick up the win. Nick Miles finished second, followed by b main winner Brent Richards from East Wenatchee in his first ever dirt start. John Johnson would finish 4th and Joel Baxter would round out the top 5. This was the first race under the new class rules where we have group qualifying and top 14 go to the A group and rest to the B group and the top 2 of the B main can elect to go to the A main or stay and collect B points. Nick Miles was fast time followed by Cory Sweatman who seemed to lose a motor after setting the fast time. A heats were won by Austin Kerrigan and Trustin Sansom. The B main was top 2 was Brent Richards and Carter Biggs who both elected to race the main event. The B main heat races went to Carter Biggs and Brent Richards.
Next Saturday night, the IMCA Modifieds return for the third week in a row along with the second week of the 360 Limited Sprints, and Hornets, and the Midgets make their season debut at the Raceway. Spectator gates open at 4:30 with hot laps at 5pm and racing at 6.
