Elma, WA -
On a sunny spring night in the Harbor there was exciting racing on the track as Craig Moore picked up his first IMCA Modified win of the year, Destry Miller won in the 360 Sprint Cars, Justin DeMars in the PHRA Dwarf Cars, and Payton Harding came out in the IMCA SportMods.
Craig Moore of Seabeck, WA led all 25 laps of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds to pick up his first win of the 2025 season, but it was anything short of easy. Moore would take the lead from the start over Scott Miller while racing from 3rd to 8th was two and even three wide as Tyson Blood would start coming through the field from a 10th starting position. After 2 early cautions Austin Rognlin would get into second and Blood would get into 3rd and the battle behind him would be crazy going four wide at one point. After another caution Blood would take over second and try to pace a very fast Moore out front until another caution. On the restart with 14 to go this is where things would get wild where Blood would take the lead going into turn one and Moore would get momentum on the high side and then cross him over coming out of two to take back the lead. The longest run of the race would occur to finish the race where Moore would have to contend with lapped traffic who was racing all over the track and Moore would have to defend a hard charging Blood one last time to pick up his first Shaw Race Cars Western Region win of the year. Blood would finish second, Rognlin third, followed by Brenton Schnitzer in fourth and Jake Sorenson in fifth. Heat race wins would go to Scott Miller, Craig Moore, and Austin Rognlin.
Teagan Fischer and James Pavel would lead the field to the green in the PHRA Dwarf cars. On the end of lap 1 while battling for the lead Paval would lose the car on the frontstretch and make contact with the wall just past the start finish line ending his night. On the restart Teegan would lead the first three laps when Rob Glenney would take over the lead on lap 4 and lead for 3 laps and then Dave Brune would take over the lead on lap 7 and after a caution slowed things down. On the restart Brune would hold off Justin DeMars for a couple laps until Justin was finally able to get by after starting 10th on the field and was able to hold off a hard charging Corey Esteban on a late restart to pick up the win. Esteban would finish second. Brune third, Glenney fourth and Mike Chadwick would rebound from an early spin to finish 5th. Mike Chadwich and Justin DeMars would pick up heat race wins early in the night.
In the 360 Sprints Destry Miller would lead from the pole and hold off Levi Kunts on the start. Kunts would have mechanical problems and pull off on lap 10 and Miller would sail off to the win. Tim Martin would finish second, and Alex Olsen would finish third.
We had an exhibition with our one local IMCA Northern SportMod Payton Harding who is moving up from the Hornet division to this much faster car for the young lady from Oakville. Our next SportMod race is May 10th and we are expecting some more cars to come out that night.
Grays Harbor Raceway is back in action this Saturday May 3rd with Round 3 featuring IMCA Modifieds, 360 Limited Sprint Cars, and the first point races for the Hornets and Midgets.
