Scott Miller, Shane Kerrigan, Greer and Sundstrom Feature Winners!

The IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Northern SportMods, Super Stocks and Hornets were in action on Saturday night. After Friday saw a lot of rain, the sun shined bright on the 3/8 banked clay oval.

Hornets

Brandon Tyler of Elma and Oakville's Payton Harding set the front row of the 20-lap feature event. Harding took the lead on the start as Grayland's Jeff Hatton looked to the outside. Contact between both drivers sent Hatton spinning and making hard contact with Steve Morgan of Bremerton, bringing out the caution. On the restart, Harding took the early lead. Hatton looked to the high side again but the caution flag flew for Scott Reed of Elma, missing a left front tire. Third time seemed to be a charm. Harding led Hatton, Zach Dalrymple of Olympia, and the rest of the field to the green flag. Hatton jumped out to the early lead with Harding, Morgan, Dalrymple and Elma's Riley Shapansky running in the top five. Hatton and Harding quickly put some distance on the rest of the field as Harding stayed within striking distance. Hoquiam driver Tyler Sundstrom worked his way into the top five, battling with Dalrymple for third. Harding, a rookie driver in the division, looked to have her best run of the 2023 season. Dalrymple and Sundstrom caught up to the top two, bringing Riley Shapansky with them. Hatton continued to fight off Harding, Dalrymple, Riley Shapansky and Sundstrom for multiple laps. Sundstrom worked his way into the top three, and set his sights on Hatton and Harding. Lap traffic became a factor, allowing Sundstrom to get by Harding mid-way through the feature. Harding fought back, continuing on in the runner up spot. Lap 13 saw Sundstrom take over second, looking to track down Hatton for the lead. A slight bobble from Hatton gave Sundstrom the momentum to take over the lead on lap 15. The battle for second saw Hatton, Harding, and Riley Shapansky put on a show for the fans. Sundstrom picked up the win over Riley Shapansky, Don Briggs Sr of Wishkah, Harding and Dalrymple. Heat race winners earlier in the evening were Dalrymple and Sundstrom.

IMCA SportMods

Brayden Brookshire of Vancouver took the early lead in the feature event. Rainier, Ore driver Kody Greer ran in second. Brookshire looked strong out front putting some distance on Greer. The caution flag flew on lap 10 for debris. On the restart, Greer stayed at the back bumper of Brookshire. Lap 15 saw trouble for Brookshire as he started to slow and a lot of smoke coming from his car. Greer picked up the win, with Brookshire finishing second. Brookshire won the heat race earlier in the evening.

Super Stocks

25 lap feature for the Super Stocks saw Hoquiam's Larry Paladin and Tom Hecker of Spanaway set the front row. Paladin took the early lead. The battle for third saw Olympia's Chuck Goodman and Steve Vonheeder of Bremerton race side by side. Austin Kerrigan of Aberdeen quickly worked his way into the top three. Contact between Goodman and Kerrigan saw damage to Kerrigan's car. Goodman went spinning into the infield bringing out the caution. On the restart it was Paladin, Hecker, Austin Kerrigan leading the rest of the field to the green flag. Austin Kerrigan worked his way into second, looking to track down Paladin for the lead. Shane Kerrigan of Aberdeen looked to work his way into the top three, racing with Hecker. Both drivers raced side by side into turn four and down the front stretch with Shane Kerrigan making the pass. Paladin worked his way into lap traffic with Austin Kerrigan looking to track him down for the lead. Kerrigan look to make a pass into turn one, as Paladin used a lap car to his advantage. Shane Kerrigan worked his way into second, getting sideways in turn one, collecting his son Austin, as well as Port Orchard's Brendan White and Vonheeder. Austin Kerrigan had heavy damage to the front of his car, with White having damage as well. Paladin led Shane Kerrigan, Hecker and the rest of the field to the green flag. Paladin saw issues off of turn two, slowing down the backstretch, ending his night. Shane Kerrigan inherited the lead and led the field to the green flag. Hecker ran in the second spot with Vonheeder running third. Shane Kerrigan picked up the win over Hecker, Vonheeder, Austin Kerrigan and Paladin. Austin Kerrigan won the heat race earlier in the evening.

IMCA Modifieds

Hoquiam's Elliott French and Jeff Hunt of Olympia led the field to the green flag in the 30-lap feature event. French took the early lead as Hunt battled Brian Izzi of Olympia for second. Ryen Haney of Elma ran in the third spot. The first caution came out on lap 2 for Izzi, getting sideways in turn four and coming to a stop. French led Haney, Shane Kerrigan of Aberdeen and a whole field of Modifieds to the green flag. French and Kerrigan battled for the lead, with Kerrigan taking over the top spot early on. Shelton's Brenton Schnitzer worked his way into second, bringing another Shelton driver Scott Miller. Kerrigan and Schnitzer put some distance on Miller and the rest of the field as Miller and French battled for third. Kerrigan ran the higher side of the raceway, powering off the corners, putting some distance on Schnitzer. Lap 6 saw the caution flag for Haney in turn four, with front end issues, ending his night. Kerrigan led Schnitzer, Scott MIller, French and Austin Rognlin of Elma. Schnitzer and Miller look to take a shot for the lead but Kerrigan held on. Tumwater's Tyson Blood worked his way into the top five, getting by Rognlin, setting his sights on Kerrigan, Schnitzer, and Miller. Lap 9 saw an incident in turn two, Miller took over second. Schnitzer looked to make slight contact, getting sideways, collecting Blood and Rognlin. Blood brought out the caution and went to the back of the field. On the restart Kerrigan, Scott Miller, Schnitzer and Izzi led the field to the green. Izzi worked his way back up in to the top five after an earlier incident. Kerrigan had tough company as Scott Miller was on his back bumper for numerous laps. The battle for third between Schnitzer, Izzi and Blood was one of the many races to watch. Lap 20 saw Kerrigan's run come to an end with mechanical issues in turn two, also collecting Miller, who had minimal damage and continued on. On the restart it was Miller, Blood, Schnitzer leading the rest. Blood stayed within striking distance of Scott Miller. Rognlin worked his way into third, getting by Schnitzer on lap 22. Blood looked to have a shot at Miller for the lead with just a handful of laps to go. It was Scott Miller holding off a hard charging Tyson Blood. Rognlin, Schnitzer and French rounded out the top five. Blood also picked up the Elma Lane's Hard Charger, going 10 positions from his original 12th place starting position. Heat race winners earlier in the evening were Maytown's Riley Scherer, Jason Tole of Hoquiam and Rognlin.
