Williamson Wins Modified Speedweek Finale

Williamson Wins Modified Speedweek Finale, Schlotfeldt, Boswell, Onasch Victorious
By: Aaron Reed

The Wild West Modified Shootout saw it's finale come to then 3/8's banked clay oval on Saturday night, with a very tight points battle going into the event. Also on hand were the 360 Sprint Cars, Limited Sprint Cars, and Hornets.

Limited Sprint Cars

15 laps were set for the Limited Sprint Cars in their feature event. Branden Skeeters of Arlington and Roseburg, Ore driver Brian Boswell set the front row. Boswell took the early lead with Stanwood's Axel Oudman moving into second. Boswell ran the high side of the raceway, as Oudman stayed low trying to take over the top spot. Oudman looked to slowly gain on Boswell but a bobble down the front stretch saw Boswell pull away to over a straight away and win the caution free main event. Oudman and Skeeters rounded out the finish. Oudman won the heat race earlier in the evening and picked up quick time.

Hornets

12 hornets set the field for the 15-lap feature event. Spencer LeCompte of Aberdeen and Belfair's Max Sanford set the front row. Sanford took the early lead. The battle for second saw Kaleya Onasch of Aberdeen and Olympia's Devon Harper. It was Harper that would take the runner up spot looking to track down Sanford. Cory Sweatman of Aberdeen and Port Orchard driver Megan White also joined in on the battle. Sweatman worked his way past LeCompte and Harper to move into the second position. Sanford looked to the low side of the raceway most of the feature event. Sweatman joined in to do battle for the lead and took the top spot, on lap 4. Harper and Onasch continued to battle for third. Lap 9 saw Olympia's Zach Dalrymple stop in turn one, after making contact with an infield tire in turn two a lap earlier. On the restart it was Sweatman leading Sanford, Onasch and Harper. Lap 11 saw contact between LeCompte and White, as White went up on her side in turn three and coming back down on all four wheels. She was ok and did continue the feature event. Sweatman continued to lead with just a handful of laps left as Onasch worked her way around Sanford. Onasch caught up with Sweatman and made a last lap pass down the backstretch and picked up her first career Hornet feature event. Sweatman, Sanford, Spanaway's Jacob Saulsbury and Steve Morgan rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Dalrymple and Harper.

360 Sprint Cars

TJ Richman of Deer Island, Ore led the field to the green flag in the 25-lap feature event. It was Jeff Dunlap of Renton taking the early lead with Shelton's Jay Cole right there, taking the lead in turn three. Cole looked strong out front with Dunlap and Jesse Schlotfeldt of Arlington in third. The caution flag flew on Lap 1 for Roseburg, Ore driver Brian Boswell, as he spun in turn one. On the restart it was Cole, Dunlap, Schlotfeldt and Olympia's Eric Rockl looking to take over the top spot. Cole timed his restart just right to get some distance as Schlotfeldt worked his way into second. Boswell saw more issues doing a complete 360 in turn four and continuing on. The battle for the fourth position between Rockl and Mt. Vernon driver Trevor Cook was the race to watch, with Cook taking the spot in turn three. Cole and Schlotfeldt continued to pull away from the rest of the field as Schlotfeldt continued to get closer to Cole. Schlotfeldt looked low a handful of times but was not quite there until lap 12 he would take over the lead out of turn four. Schlotfeldt slowly extended his lead on Cole, as the battle for third was the race to watch between Dunlap and Cook. Lap 19 saw Cook take over the podium spot from Dunlap. Schlotfeldt would pick up the win over Cole, Cook, Dunlap, and Rockl. Dunlap won the heat race earlier in the evening, as Cook picked up quick time.

IMCA Modifieds - Wild West Modified Shootout Finale

The 40-lap feature for the IMCA Modifieds saw a strong field of drivers ready to battle it out after a long, grueling week of racing starting at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore. Collen Winebarger of Corbett, Ore and Olympia's Tyson Blood set the front row of the feature event. Winebarger took the early lead. Blood and Eugene, Ore driver Jesse Williamson battled for second. Grey Ferrando of Stayton, Ore also joined in on the battle. The caution flag flew on lap 2 for Cory Sweatman of Aberdeen. Winebarger took over the lead once again on the restart. Ian Whisler of Otis, Ore looked to the high side to make a run at Blood and Ferrando for second. Ferrando worked his way to the low side and took over the runner up position. Blood and Whisler battled back and forth, as Williamson and Eston Whisler of Otis, Ore joined in on the battle. Ferrando set his sights on Winebarger for the lead running the high side all around the raceway. Ian and Eston Whisler battled for the fourth position will Williamson right behind them. Winebarger seen lap traffic on lap 9, getting by Aberdeen's Elliott French. Ferrando continued to follow, both drivers pulling away from the field. The battle for third was the race to watch as Blood, Williamson and Eston Whisler made it a three-car battle. Ferrando worked his way closer to Winebarger, as heavy lap traffic ensued in front of him. Ferrando made a bid for the lead on lap 16, racing side by side with Winebarger. Lap 17, Ferrando took the lead from Winebarger. Williamson worked his way into third looking to track down the top two drivers and make it a three-car battle for the lead.

Williamson and Winebarger raced side by side for second, with Williamson taking second. Winebarger stayed close, looking to get the position back as Williamson worked the high side of the raceway. Two grooves made for exciting racing all through the field as a long green flag run saw Ferrando and Williamson race side by side for the lead within multiple laps, both drivers working their way through lap traffic Ferrando did get the advantage late in the run. A late race caution setup a green, white, checkered finish as Williamson led Ferrando and Eston Whisler to the green. Williamson went to the low side and slowly pulled away, picking up the win over Ferrando, Winebarger, Eston Whisler, and Tyson Blood. Two sets of heat races were ran earlier in the evening. Ferrando, Brenton Schnitzer of Shelton and Eston Whisler won the first set, as Williamson, Winebarger and Shelton's Devan West won the second set.
