With the Northwest Extreme Sprints at the Grays Harbor Raceway this Saturday June 22nd for Pepsi Night we decided to get up close and personal with one of the drivers that competes in that division. Zach McCabe of Arlington, Washington plans on making the trip to the 3/8-mile clay oval for his second visit of his career to GHR. McCabe, in his second year in a Sprint Car, already has won three main events in local competition at the Skagit Speedway in 2013.

Driver: Zach McCabe
Hometown: Arlington, WA
Occupation: Equipment Operator
Years Racing: 2
Age: 28

Classification: Northwest Extreme Sprints
Car Number: 46
Chassis: XXX Race Co.
Sponsors: McCabe Motorsports, XXX Race Company, Speedmart Inc., Superior Powdercoating, Wet Labs, Riverside Tree Service
Special Thanks: Pit Crew, Mom

BD: How would you say your second year in a Sprint Car is going?
ZM: I love it so far. The way these cars are built is that every part has a use. They’re very cool to drive.

BD: What are some highlights of your career that you’ve had so far?
ZM: We got third at the Sportsman Showdown last year which was our first big race we ran. This year we’ve started out with three wins in eight starts.

BD: Do you plan on racing Elma more this year?
ZM: Yes. We plan on hitting all those Northwest Extreme races. I’m really looking forward to the two day show on Labor Day weekend. We also may try and go race at Cottage Grove at the end of the year.

BD: You made it to Grays Harbor Raceway last month for the first time to race. What did you think?
ZM: I love that place. You carry more speed and actually feel the car working. The track is smooth and always prepped right. I got to thank Nikki and Jerry for organizing this whole deal so that we can run there.

BD: Does the #46 have any significance at all?
ZM: No, no significance. The only story behind it is when I got in the Sprints I picked a number that didn’t mean anything to anyone.

The Grays Harbor Raceway will return to racing action Saturday June 22nd for Pepsi Night. Classes in competition will include the Northwest Extreme Sprints, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and Hornets. For more information log on to www.graysharborraceway.com.
