Elma, Washington- It’s that time of the year again for Grays Harbor Raceway. Memorial Day weekend means two nights of racing and the two nights in store for fans across the Northwest are going to be some great ones. This Saturday May 25th and Sunday the 26th will mark the dates for the Spring Challenge (formerly known as the Spring Showdown). The weekend will be the season opener for the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region while support classes include the Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds and Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks.

“Whenever ASCS-Northwest comes to town it’s guaranteed to be a great night of racing,” commented Nikki Gamell, General Manager of Grays Harbor Raceway, “we’re very honored to have the season opener for this wonderful series at this facility. Don’t forget we will also have the Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds and Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks for both days too. These are great classes to watch also.”

The weekend will be the fourth time that Grays Harbor Raceway has opened the season up for ASCS-Northwest since the series began in 2008. Jason Solwold has the most wins on this particular weekend with four while five other drivers have only won once. Those drivers include Jayme Barnes, Seth Bergman, Shawn Rice, Roger Crockett, and Brock Lemley. Crockett and Lemley managed to win the two events in last year’s edition. In local 360 Sprint competition Reece Goetz and defending champion J.J. Hickle have each visited victory lane so far this year.

There have been three Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modified races in 2013 and two-time defending champion Joe German has won two of them. The only other victor in the division has been four-time champ Scott Miller who won the season opener back in April. In the Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks only two races have been ran this season. Jack Parshall and defending champion Jason Tole have been the winners in those two events.

Ticket prices on both days will be $18.00 for Adults, $15.00 for Seniors (62+)/Juniors (13-18)/Military, $10.00 for Youths (6-12), and Children Under 5 are FREE. A Family Pass (2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) will be offered for $45.00 and Premium Seating is $25.00.

The Grays Harbor Raceway is known for its high speeds and side by side racing as well as its large track size. Hosting racing action from April to October regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Street Stocks, Hornets, and for the first time the Northwest Extreme Winged Sprint Car Series. Special events include visits by the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region.
