Getting Up To Speed With…Cale Brooke

Today we catch up with Pemberton, British Columbia’s Cale Brooke. Originally from London, Ontario Brooke has since moved to “the Pacific province” and is a competitor on the rise. Brooke enters his eighth year of racing and plans on running Grays Harbor Raceway as many times as funds will allow. Also look for him on the majority of the ASCS-Northwest Region trail in 2013.

BD: What has been the main attraction to Sprint Car racing for you?
CB: I think anything open wheel is where it is at. When I was younger my dad took to me to Oswego Speedway (in New York) to watch the Super Modifieds and I liked those.
BD: Looking at a map Pemberton is located around three hours north of the boarder just above Whistler. From your town to Elma is over six hours driving. When you plan on making a trip to Grays Harbor Raceway what is the routine?
CB: For Grays Harbor we leave around 5:00 AM the day of the race and we usually get to the track around 2-3:00 PM. Usually we stay overnight and camp or get a motel room and drive back the next day.
BD: Speaking again of Grays Harbor Raceway what do you like most about it?
CB: The staff is really nice and the General Manager Nikki is great. I also love the facility it’s a really cool place. Everything seems to run smooth. I’d run there more often if I didn’t live so far away.
BD: Late last year I noticed you upgraded to a 360 Sprint from a Sportsman Sprint. Is that correct?
CB: I had run a 360 Sprint before but it was loaner motor. Last year we invested in our own. We still have the Sportsman motor around and if nothing is going on we’ll break that out some.
BD: In 2012 you travelled to some different tracks quite a bit. How was that from your point of view?
CB: I loved it. I’m trying to become a better driver and it was the thing for me. Last year winning the B Main at the race at Willamette with our sportsman motor was a big deal to me. Just running different kinds of tracks has helped me.
Grays Harbor Raceway returns to action this Saturday May 18th. 360 Sprints will be on hand for some valuable track time before the big Spring Challenge weekend on Saturday May 25th and Sunday the 26th. The Spring Challenge will be the first races of 2013 for the ASCS-Northwest Region.
