Shipwreck Beads Continue Support Of Modifieds At GHR

By Ben Deatherage

Elma, Washington- Something that has went hand in hand at Grays Harbor Raceway is Modifieds and Shipwreck Beads. Once again the Northwest Modified Nationals will be sponsored by the Olympia based company something they have done since the event’s inception. In addition to the marquee event they will be the title sponsor of the IMCA Modified division at GHR. Currently there are sixteen races in 2013 for the Modifieds including the Nationals. The dates for this year’s edition of the Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals have been marked for Friday July 26th and Saturday the 27th.

“Our relationship with Grays Harbor Raceway is very strong and we look forward to sponsoring the Northwest Modified Nationals and the Modified class there,” commented Glenn Vincent of Shipwreck Beads who in 1997 was the champion of the Super Stock division at GHR, “we’re very close to the track and our relationship with Elma is 100% solid. I feel our relationship is the best that it has ever been.”

The Modified division at the Elma facility has produced some great racing over the years. In 2012 Joe German earned his second consecutive title becoming the fourth different driver to win multiple championships in the division. Last year produced eight different winners in fifteen events with four-time Modified champion Scott Miller winning the most races with four visits to victory lane.

“We are so happy to have Shipwreck Beads back to Grays Harbor Raceway,” said Nikki Gamell General Manager of GHR, “the Vincent family has made the Nationals event one the best in the country. With their support over the years and we can’t thank enough for all that they have done.”

The Northwest Modified Nationals have proved to be a premier event with the win list comprised of a who’s who in Modified racing. In the last six years there have been six different winners and only two drivers have managed to win it more than once since the first running in 2000. Last year over sixty entries signed in on the registration sheets to compete over the weekend and Mark Wauge would best them all in the final race of the night.
Shipwreck Beads has the world’s largest selection of beads included in their 22,000 square foot showroom and 80,000 square foot warehouse. Owned and operated by the Vincent family since 1969 the business began as a nautical themed antique store in Olympia near Mud Bay. Supporters of the Grays Harbor Raceway for many seasons as well as the title sponsor of the Northwest Modified Nationals there are few businesses as loyal as the aforementioned company. Visit them at their location at 8560 Commerce Place Driver NE in Lacey, or give them a call at (800) 950-4232, or visit them on the web at www.shipwreckbeads.com.

The Grays Harbor Raceway is known for its high speeds and side by side racing as well as its large track size. Hosting racing action from April to October regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Street Stocks, Hornets, and for the first time the Northwest Extreme Winged Sprint Car Series. Special events include visits by the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region.
