Saturday June 22nd was the most recent installment of racing at the Grays Harbor Raceway. The 3/8-mile clay oval hosted another great evening with the wonderful people at Pepsi presenting the action. The USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and Hornets were all the divisions on hand for the event.

Chase Goetz of Snohomish returned to victory lane for the third time this season. Goetz would lead the last few laps in his Great Western Transport/Elma Lanes #91 Beast after Garrett Thomas led the majority of the distance. It would be Goetz’s third win in four starts at GHR in 2013.

McCleary driver Garrett Thomas would earn second in the Olson Landscaping/Martelli Distributing #14 Beast followed by the Gaylon and Carla Stewart owned #3S of Jared Peterson from Stanwood in the Sno-Lynn Machine/XXX Race Co. entry in third. Completing the top five was Ariel Biggs from Ocasta in the Don Emory owned #11E machine in fourth while crossing the line in fifth was Montesano’s Jeremy Miller in his MASCO Petroleum #44 Beast. Fast time of the night was Garrett Thomas at 16.288 seconds while heat races were won by Jeremy Miller and Chase Goetz.

Cory Sweatman from Cosmopolis was able to put his Sweatman Trucking/D&D Dyno #11 mount into victory lane for the first time this year bringing an end to the winning streak of defending champion Jason Tole of Hoquiam. Tole however was fast during the course of the night and even led a handful of laps.

Jason Tole would take the lead on lap fourteen from the Jacknut Apparel/CNK Machine #9 Camaro of early race leader Jack Parshall, also of Hoquiam. Cory Sweatman would take over the top spot on lap seventeen and would lead the rest of the way to become the third different winner this year.

The Western Washington Construction/Crowell Brothers Automotive #34 of Jason Tole was second while Shane Kerrigan of Aberdeen would earn third in his #43 Mustang. The Custom Fiberglass/Conger Racing #13XXX of Don Briggs from Wishkah was fourth followed by Elma’s Chip Haney in his Napa Auto Parts-Montesano #77 machine. Fast time of the evening was Jason Tole at 18.149 seconds while heat races were won by Tole and Spanaway’s #5 entry of Tom Hecker.

Chad Norton of Tenino would lead the entire distance of the Hornet main event to win his third race of the season in the Free Junk Removal #75. Chad Norton is the now the most victorious driver in the division so far.

Brian Norton of Tacoma would place second in the Free Junk Removal #43 and third place would go to the #95 of Shane Norton. Jeff Daniel of Ocean Shores was fourth in his Pure Clothing/John L. Scott Real Estate #14 followed by the Cranberry Road Winery/Westport Brewing Company #25 of Chris Puglsey from Ocasta. The #22X of Shane Turner of Tacoma and Elma’s Amanda Allery, in her I-5 Auto & Truck/Loopez #37, were heat race winners earlier in the program.

Friday June 28th and Saturday the 29th will be the next two events at Grays Harbor Raceway. The doubleheader will be the kickoff to the 2013 Bully Dog Performance Speedweek Northwest presented by Contingency Connection for the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region. Also on the card for both nights will be the always entertaining Northwest Extreme Late Model Series. For more information log on to
