Today we catch up with veteran driver Scott Westley who has ran at the Grays Harbor Raceway for the last decade. The Centralia, Washington chauffeur has competed in the Street Stock (formerly known as the Hobby Stock) division and is now a regular in the ranks of the Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds. Before competing at GHR Westley had driving experience in dirt bikes, quads, and Demo Derby cars.

Driver: Scott Westley
Home Track: Grays Harbor Raceway
Hometown: Centralia, Washington
Occupation: Equipment Operator
Age: 47
Years Racing: 10

Classification: IMCA Modifieds
Car Number: 93
Sponsors: A.A. Auto Sales, Kresky Auto Repair & Electric, Centralia OK Tire Factory, Brittco Automotive, Westley Interiors
Special Thanks: Brian Holmeide, Leroy Lawhead

BD: How long have you been around the racing scene?
SW: For awhile. I had pitted for Leroy Lawhead for two years. I didn’t start racing myself until eleven years ago when I ran a pit man’s race for Leroy and I was hooked as driver. Brian Holmeide had a Hobby Stock laying around his shop and let me go run it. I ran that division for five years and made the switch to Modifieds around 2007.

BD: I have to compliment on your paint scheme with the blue body and yellow lettering. Is there a story behind your number?
SW: Thanks, I love the blue. I especially like the blue and yellow together it’s simple but nice. As far as the number the Hobby Stock I used to race was #93. But it just so happens that my daughter was born in 1993 so there is more than one reason I picked that number.

BD: The Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds at Elma are tough group of competitors. How do you personally rate it?
SW: It’s challenging. The car suspensions are so adjustable it can make it easier or harder for you in an instant. But the drivers are excellent and are always willing to help me out. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do this.

BD: What are some goals that you have set for yourself in 2013?
SW: Just to have fun I don’t care if I win or lose I’m here to just have fun. My goal for every race, whether it is a heat race or main event, is to finish higher than I started. I just want to have a good time.

BD: After a handful of races how would your season so far?
SW: I’m having fun. I got a freshened motor from Brian Holmeide’s widow. The worst thing to happen this year was that I had a little starter issue. Either then that nothing really weird has happened.

The Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds will be on hand this Saturday June 8th at the Grays Harbor Raceway for $750.00 to win and $200.00 to start courtesy of X-Factor Race Cars. The night will also have the one-hundred lap Cut Rate Auto Parts 100 for the Street Stocks. The 360 Sprints and Hornets will make up the two other classes in competition.
