ASCS NORTHWEST REGION SPRINT SERIES AT GRAYS HARBOR RACEWAY FOR TWO BIG NIGHTS
Grays Harbor Raceway a ASA member track located at the Fairgrounds in Elma, Washington roars into high gear this Memorial Day Weekend as the ASCS Northwest Region Sprint Cars are in action for two big days of racing, Saturday May 29th and Sunday May 30th. Both nights will see complete shows, as this will be the opening races of the 2010 ASCS Northwest Region Series. The Triple X Ford Focus Midgets will also be in action on both nights.
Defending Champion Roger Crockett from Medford, Oregon will be back to defend his Championship for the 2010 series, but can expect tough competition from 2008 ASCS Northwest Champion Jayme Barnes from Everett. Barnes who announced a couple of weeks ago that he will be piloting the potent Roger Henderson machine should give Crockett a run for his money. Other contenders include Snohomish driver Seth Bergman, Bergman the current points leader at Grays Harbor has won three of the first four events. Enumclaw’s Henry Van Dam should be in contention along with Tacoma drivers Mitch Olson and Shawn Rice, former Grays Harbor Raceway Champions Glenn Borden Jr. from Raymond and Shelton’s Jay Cole. Add the young guns that include Quilcenes’s JJ Hickle, Monroe’s Josh Dewitt, Jared Peterson from Standwood and Puyallup’sTrey Starks with veterans Brock Lemely from Bellingham, Jason Solwold from Burlington, Everett’s Rick Fauver, Danielle Huson from Sedro Woolley, Oregon drivers Billy Nutter, Kyle Miller, Chad Groves, Phil Del Rosa and Rob Held, California’s Steven Tiner along with Canadian drivers Chris Schmelze, Mike Melwicks and Randy Price and this is going to be not stop action.
The Triple X Ford Focus Midgets will also be in action, 2009 Champion Seth Hespe from Snohomish and Alison Journey from Springfield, Oregon are currently tied for the top spot in points with 223. They are followed by a pair of talented rookies, Dustin O’Brien from Lake Stevens with 209 points and Snohomish driver Reese Goetz with 197, Montesano’s Jeremy Miller rounds out the top five with 194 points. Poulsbo’s Garret Johnson and Hoquiam’s Ariel Biggs are one point back at 193, Bothell’s Todd Hartman sits eighth with 187 followed by Olympia’s Annika Johansen with 176 and Montesano’s Bailey Studor with 169.
The Elma Hall of Fame will have its 2nd Annual Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser on Sunday starting at noon at the Borden-Seaburt Hall at the Fairgrounds. The 2010 Hall Of Fame Inductee’s will be announced along with the 2009 Elma Auto Racing Hall Of Fame Scholarship award winners being announced. Enjoy some great spaghetti with some of your favorite friends and do some bench racing, in a building surrounded with rich northwest racing history and memorabilia. It will start at noon and go to 3:30pm, here will also be an auction as well as autograph session with some of the ASCS Northwest’s drivers at 3:00 pm, so make sure your kids bring their autograph books!
