Carrell and Berquist Hit Victory Lane on Modified Nationals Preliminary Features!

Northwest Modified Nationals:

While the 16th Annual Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals Friday night event was rained out after the heat races, the feature event for Friday was ran on Saturday early evening. Nick Trenchard of Kalamath Falls, Ore who won last year's event led the field to the green flag, and jumped out to the early lead. Mark Carrell of Redmond, Ore moved into the second spot. A three car battle for third saw Port Hardy, BC driver Lawrence O'Connor, Aaron Sheelar of Springfield, Ore, and past Northwest Modified Nationals winner Jesse Williamson of Coburg, Ore. O'Connor would maintain the third spot, but Williamson raced side by side with him for a handful of laps.

Throughout the field there the fans seen three and even four wide battles for position, while Trenchard continued to pull away. Williamson moved into the third position from O'Connor. Trenchard would hit lap traffic late in the feature, giving a chance for Carrell to make his move. Carrell timed his move just right as Trenchard took the white flag, getting to the outside down the backstretch, getting side by side with Trenchard into three, and stealing the victory at the line. Trenchard, Williamson, Collen Winebarger of Corbett, Ore, and Jeremy Shank of Salem, Ore rounded out the top five. Winning the heat races on Friday night were Jeremy Richey, Nick Trenchard, Tom Sweatman and Joe German. Trenchard won the A-Scramble, with Jason Beaulieu and Sam Potter winning the two C-Main events, and Kyle Casson picked up the B-Main. Lawrence O'Connor picked up fast time on Friday night.

PHRA Dwarf Cars:

37 Pacific Hard Top Racing Association Dwarf Cars signed in to Grays Harbor Raceway. Josh King of Medford, Ore led the field to the green flag on the feature event. Shane Youngren of Tigard, Ore took the early lead from King, but contact between King and Youngren in turn one brought out the caution. Kevin Benson of Cascade Locks, Ore inherited the lead. Tim Hester of Westland, Ore looked to try and take the lead from Benson, but would only get to his back bumper. Hester would look to the inside a handful of times to try and take the lead, but couldn't make the pass. Kalvin Morton looked to the outside of Benson for the lead on lap 5, as he would lead that lap. Ryan Martinez or Portland, Ore moved into the second spot, getting around Benson.

Martinez took the lead from Morton on lap 12 with a pass on the high side out of four as Henry Corbin III Mollala, Ore driving a car for Clay Goben moved into the second spot, looking to chase down Martinez. Eric Bergquist of Hillsboro, Ore also joined in on the battle working his way through the field from the 20th position. Bergquist on the high side took the lead from Martinez on lap 18 in turn three, and would go on to win the PHRA Dwarf Car feature. Martinez and Corbin III rounded out the top three.
