Sweatman, Kerrigan, and Corbin III Big Winners at Grays Harbor Raceway

With the sun shining bright, and not a cloud in the sky, the Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, Shipwreck Beads Modifieds, with their second race at GHR for the Washington Modified Tour, and the Pacific Hard Top Racing Association Dwarf Cars were on hand for an exciting night of racing.

Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks:

So far this year in the Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, it has been the Kerrigan's show, as Shane Kerrigan, and his son Austin have been the ones to beat. The 20 lap feature would see Wishkah driver Don Briggs Jr, and Aberdeen's Austin Kerrigan on the front row. Kerrigan would jump to the early lead, with Jason Tole of Hoquiam making a pass down the backstretch for the lead. Tole would lead Austin Kerrigan, Briggs Jr, and Brenton Schnitzer of Shelton would join in the battle for third with Hoquiam's Jack Parshall joining in on the battle as well. The first caution of the evening would come out for Schnitzer on lap 3, as he would tag the front stretch wall, putting an end to his evening. Tole would lead the field to the green flag, with Kerrigan getting a great start as well, racing side by side and taking the lead from Tole down the backstretch. With action all over the racetrack, the battle for third, fourth and fifth between Briggs Jr, Shane Kerrigan, and Spanaway driver Tom Hecker would be one of the many battles on the raceway to watch, as they would get three wide down the front stretch, with Briggs Jr getting the third spot.

Austin Kerrigan would have tough company throughout the feature from Parshall, including a late race caution by Briggs Jr, setting up a green, white, checkered restart. Kerrigan would take the lead on the restart, and started to pull away from Parshall. Shane Kerrigan would try and look to the outside of Parshall into turn one for second, but couldn't make the pass. Austin Kerrigan would pick up his third win of the 2015 season, Jack Parshall, Shane Kerrigan, Jason Tole, who had issues earlier in the feature would come from the back to finish fourth, and Tom Hecker would round out the top five. Heat race winners earlier in the evening were Tole, Hecker, and Austin Kerrigan, with Tole picking up quick time.

Pacific Hard Top Racing Association Dwarf Cars:

The PHRA Dwarf Cars would make their first appearance to Grays Harbor Raceway for 2015, with a great field of cars. Leo Ward of Happy Valley OR, and Hillsboro, OR's Eric Bergquist would set the front row for the 20 lap feature. Ward would take the early lead, with Henry Corbin III of Mollala, OR, and Westland, OR driver Tim Hester would move into the second and third spot, putting Bergquist back in fourth. Corbin III would look to try and make a pass on Ward for the lead in turn four on lap 2, but couldn't make the pass. Corbin III would work the back bumper of Ward, and look to the outside of Ward in turn 3, making the pass out of turn four, on lap 4. Ward would have issues going into turn one, spinning his car around, but would continue and the race would stay green. Corbin III would start to pull away from the field, with Hester, and Bergquist trying to chase him down.

Only one caution would come out in the PHRA Dwarf Car feature, which would set up a green, white, checkered finish. The caution would come out for Mollala, OR driver Jim Pavel, who would slow to a stop in turn one. On the green, white, checkered restart, Corbin III would get a great restart, with Tim Hester, and Berquist looking to make one last shot for the lead. It wouldn't take long for Corbin III to pull away from the rest of the field, picking up the feature event. Tim Hester, Eric Berquist, Jess Turner Jr, and Glenn Hester would round out the top five. Heat race winners earlier in the evening were Ward, Bergquist, and Corbin III

Shipwreck Beads Modifieds/Washington Modified Tour:

With 23 Shipwreck Beads Modifieds in the pit area, the 25 lap feature would be a wild one, and quite a treat for the fans on Saturday night. Graham Cook of Port Hardy, BC, and last week's winner Tom Sweatman of Cosmopolis would lead the field to the green flag. Sweatman would take the early lead, but just as the green flag would fly, the yellow would come out for Port Hardy, BC driver Lawrence O'Connor who would spin in turn one, after a chain reaction when Aberdeen's Shane Kerrigan would get sideways on the front stretch, and Scott Miller of Shelton would try to avoid, and make contact with O'Connor. On the restart, Sweatman would take the early lead, with Cook, and Mark Carrell of Redmond, OR would look to chase Sweatman down. Carrell and Cook would put on a great battle for the the second position, with Carrell taking the spot on lap 2. Plenty of exciting battles would be going on throughout the field, with side by side racing, making it very exciting for the fans.

Lap 11 would see a red flag for Scott Miller, as he would get upside down in turn three. His car would lay over on it's side on one of the tractor tires at the bottom of the raceway. Scott Miller would walk away from accident unhurt. Sweatman would lead Carrell, and Cook to the green flag on the restart, with Carrell looking to chase down Sweatman for the lead. Carrell would get to the back bumper of Sweatman a handful of times, but it wouldn't be until heavy lap traffic would become a factor. As Sweatman would take the white flag, Carrell would be right there, looking to make the pass, getting side by side with Sweatman in turn two, with heavy lap traffic in front of both drivers, but Carrell couldn't make the pass. Sweatman would take the checkered flag, winning two in a row at Grays Harbor Raceway. Mark Carrell, John Campos, Graham Cook, and Lawrence O'Connor would round out the top five. Heat race winners earlier in the night would go to Carrell, Kerrigan, and Sweatman

Racing will resume next Saturday night with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and the Outlaw Tuners. Gates open at 5:30 PM, racing starts at 7PM.
