Elma, Washington- Summer time is about racing, outdoor concerts, and fairs in the Pacific Northwest due to the nature of the climate during the colder months. This Saturday, August 10th, you can experience all of those things and more at the Grays Harbor County Fair. Carnival rides, world class entertainment, and of course the best racing anyone can find in the state of Washington. Classes that will be competing include the Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and Hornets.
Spectators wanting to watch the races from the grandstands will get in for FREE with paid fair admission while Season Pass holders will be allowed to enter the fair for FREE after 1:00 PM. Pit Gates will open at 11:00 AM, Front Gates 3:00 PM, Qualifying at 4:00, Opening Ceremonies at 4:30, and Racing is scheduled to be completed by 8:30. We hope everyone can make it out and enjoy some great racing and a wonderful county fair at the same time.
After a well-deserved week off teams of the Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds are ready to get back into the swing of things. In eight races there have been seven different winners with two-time and defending champ Joe German the only driver to have won twice in 2013. Drivers with a single victory include Scott Miller, Zack Simpson, Jesse Williamson, Craig Moore, Josh Muller, and the 2013 Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals winner Jeremy Shank. Entering Saturday’s event German has a one point advantage of second place Tom Sweatman as the two have a wonderful point battle going on.
The USAC Ford Focus Midgets will be on hand for the sixth time this year. And in those five previous visits Chase Goetz has won four of them. The only other driver to visit victory lane this season for the class has been defending champion Jared Peterson who has done so on just a single occasion. Chase Goetz has comfortable sixty-seven point margin over Garrett Thomas.
In the Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks defending champ Jason Tole has been the man to beat. There have been seven total races for the division and Tole has won five of them including the Cut Rate Auto Parts Iron Man 100. Cory Sweatman and Jack Parshall have won one each and Sweatman currently has a forty-seven point lead over Tole in the championship standings.
Last but not least the mighty Hornets will be feature Saturday night. In seven races there have been three different victors all of which have won more than once. Defending champ Chad Norton leads the win column with three victories over Jeff Daniel and Brian Norton who have two apiece. Chad Norton also leads the points table with a twenty-three marker lead.
The Grays Harbor Raceway is known for its high speeds and side by side racing as well as its large track size. Hosting racing action from April to October regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Street Stocks, Hornets, and for the first time the Northwest Extreme Winged Sprint Car Series. Special events include visits by the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region.
