Elma, Washington- With the season opener just days away fans and drivers are getting more and more anxious for racing to return to Grays Harbor Raceway. Saturday April 20th will be the first race of the 2013 season. All five staple classes will be on hand for the evening which includes 360 Sprints, Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and Hornets. A practice will occur the day before on Friday the 19th and will give drivers a chance to shake down their cars before Saturday night.

“We’re all very excited for Saturday to finally get some racing in,” commented Nikki Gamell, General Manager of Grays Harbor Raceway, “the first race last year we had some great weather and a very good crowd. We hope everyone can make it out and enjoy some great racing this Saturday.”

Last year witnessed 2012 champ J.J. Hickle earn the victory in first race for the 360 Sprints with a late race pass on Mitch Olson after one of Olson’s tires went down. Joe German backed up his 2011 championship with a season opening victory in 2012 and would capture his second consecutive title in the Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds and finished with a total of three feature wins. Jared Peterson started his winning trend in the first race of 2012 in the USAC Ford Focus Midgets and by season’s end would win the championship as well as a total of five feature victories after a dominating campaign.

Brian Harding would capture an emotional first career victory in the Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks and would go on to win five more times in the class. The Hornet classification for their first race last April saw eventual champion Chad Norton visit victory lane after leader Shane Kerrigan experienced some troubles.

As previously mentioned on Friday April 19th a practice is scheduled and is set to begin at 4:00 PM and will last until Dusk. General Admission is free to all spectators wishing to sit in the grandstands and watch while Pit Passes are $25.00.
